The Office of the Vice President (OVP) celebrates its 90th anniversary this year, marking decades of dedicated public service to the Filipino nation.
"Since its establishment in 1935, this office has been a pillar of Philippine democracy, transforming challenges into opportunities for impactful, grassroots service," Vice President Sara Duterte said in a statement issued on Thursday, 13 November.
According to Duterte, every vice president has served during unique times and challenges—from post-war recovery to national crises and revolutions—and each one, through personal dedication, expanded the capability and mandate of the OVP.
"They [past vice presidents] proved that true power can be achieved through public service," she said.
"In recognition to their contributions, we invite you to participate and take this history to heart," the Vice President added.
Duterte urged the public to visit OVP's pop-up exhibits in major cities nationwide to witness stories, documents, and artifacts showcasing the contributions of former vice presidents.
"Our 90th anniversary celebration is also a launchpad for the future. We are laying the foundational groundwork to ensure the Office of the Vice President remains strong, stable, and effective for the next century," she said.
The OVP is working toward three critical goals:
First, the OVP Museum: A dedicated space to permanently preserve and showcase the history, artifacts, and legacy of the Vice Presidency for future generations.
Second, a permanent OVP Office: A stable headquarters to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and ensure uninterrupted, accessible service delivery across administrations.
Lastly, the OVP Charter: A legislative initiative to formally define the mandate, functions, and capacity of the Office of the Vice President, ensuring that 90 years of institutional authority is constitutionally recognized and supported.
"These initiatives are our commitment to democratic institution-building. Strengthening this office will allow us to serve you better, more efficiently, and with greater impact," Duterte said.
"Join us in this momentous celebration and share your hope for the future of the Office of the Vice President," she added.
