The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has received 25 boxes of doxycycline hydrochloride (Doxicon 100 mg capsules) to support its personnel engaged in relief and rescue operations following the recent series of powerful typhoons that struck the country.
In a statement on Tuesday, the AFP said the medicines were donated by the FPJ Panday Bayanihan Party-list, in partnership with Jackpharma Inc. The turnover followed a courtesy call by FPJ Panday Bayanihan Party-list Representative Brian Poe and Jackpharma Inc. director Jascko Hernandez to AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr.
The donation aims to help protect AFP personnel, reservists, and first responders who are regularly exposed to health risks in flood-hit and disaster-prone areas.
Doxycycline hydrochloride, an antibiotic under the tetracycline class, is commonly used to treat various bacterial infections, including those affecting the respiratory and urinary tracts, skin, eyes, and intestines. It is also prescribed for the prevention of malaria.
“The AFP conveys its gratitude to FPJ Panday Bayanihan, Rep. Brian Poe—an Army Reservist with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel—and Jackpharma Inc. for their timely support to the military’s disaster response operations,” the AFP said.
The military added that it remains steadfast in its commitment to lead humanitarian assistance and disaster response efforts, working closely with partners to save lives and help affected families recover.
