Some 57,861 families were evacuated and 59 trapped families were rescued by the Northern Luzon Command (NOLCOM) of the Armed Forces of the Philippines as Super Typhoon Uwan ravaged Northern and Central Luzon.

According to NOLCOM, the numbers were recorded during its Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response (HADR) operations across Luzon.

The military command worked closely with local government units (LGUs) in conducting the preemptive evacuation of the 57,861 families a day ahead of Uwan’s landfall.

Joint Task Force (JTF) Tala evacuated 22,894 families; JTF Kaugnay evacuated 31,581 families; JTF Karagatan evacuated 929 families; and the Tactical Operations Wing Northern Luzon evacuated 2,457 families across NOLCOM’s Joint Operational Area (JOA).

Additionally, JTF Kaugnay’s Disaster Response Teams (DRTs) conducted rescue operations, successfully saving 59 families who were trapped in areas affected by severe flooding, landslides, and strong winds.

To sustain its disaster response efforts, NOLCOM has mobilized 455 search, rescue, and retrieval teams from its JTFs, including additional water search and rescue units from the Philippine Army, Philippine Air Force, and Philippine Navy.

These DRTs remain deployed across the JOA to support affected communities and coordinate with local disaster response councils and LGUs.

NOLCOM’s HADR operations also include rapid damage assessment and needs analysis, road clearing, and logistics support for the delivery of relief goods. The command remains on full alert as it continues to monitor post-typhoon conditions and provide critical assistance.

In collaboration with national agencies and LGUs, NOLCOM reaffirmed its commitment to protect lives, restore normalcy, and bring hope to communities impacted by Super Typhoon Uwan.
