Cagayan de Oro (CDO), known as the “City of Golden Friendship” for its warm and welcoming people, is also famous for its world-class whitewater rafting experience. Truly tsada (beautiful) — as the people of Cagayan and Misamis Oriental would say.
The Tourism Promotions Board (TPB), in partnership with Aboitiz InfraCapital, concluded its three-day Community-Based Tour on 7 November with an exhilarating showcase of water adventures.
Tsada ang Kagay Whitewater Rafting
Located in Cagayan de Oro, Kagay Whitewater Rafting is a must-try adventure that even former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and then Tourism Secretary Dick Gordon once experienced.
Sir Bert, a Department of Tourism-accredited tour guide, shared that whitewater rafting in CDO began to gain popularity following the presidential visit.
Local guides Kuya Fred and Kuya Clind have witnessed how the city’s tourism industry has flourished through the years, having been in the job for 18 years. Kuya Clind told DAILY TRIBUNE that he once saw the captivating beauty of Sam Milby and KC Concepcion during the filming of Forever in a Day directed by Cathy Garcia-Sampana.
“I was so excited to finally be a double, I didn’t even know my character would fall into the water,” Kuya Clind fondly recalled. He added that the rafting experience is so thrilling that even an 86-year-old woman from Manila once dared to try it.
A fun fact about the Kagay Whitewater Rafting trail: it lies between two provinces; Cagayan de Oro on the left side (facing the current) and Bukidnon on the right.
Since it’s a river course, the slope constantly changes, making each ride unpredictable and exciting, even for repeat visitors.
The entire trail can last up to two hours, with several stops for photo opportunities and swimming, making it a perfect bonding experience for families and friends amidst the waves.
Tsada ang Seven Seas Waterpark and Resort
Seven Seas Waterpark and Resort is a world-class water adventure destination located in Misamis Oriental, just a few minutes from Cagayan de Oro City.
Known as the first and largest pirate-themed waterpark in the Philippines, it features thrilling attractions such as the Cyclone, Plank Drop, and a massive wave pool and a relaxing lazy river.
With its family-friendly facilities and exciting rides, Seven Seas offers fun, adventure, and relaxation for visitors of all ages. A restaurant is also conveniently located inside, so there’s no need to worry about bringing packed lunches for the whole family.
Northern Mindanao will never fail to make your vacation memorable. As Department of Tourism Regional Director Marie Elaine Unchuan shared with DAILY TRIBUNE, the region offers cinematic sceneries and adventures “from ridge to reef.”
