Behind the three-day Philatelic Exhibition at Robinsons Manila, which features the Philippine Mythical Creatures II Stamp Collections, is a man who willingly drew the pieces for free.

Graphic artist Ryman Albuladora created the artwork for the stamps, championing both known and lesser-known mythical creatures in the Philippine landscape. The exhibit celebrates the 31st National Stamp Collecting Month (NSCM), PHLPost’s 258th Postal Anniversary, and the 75th Founding Anniversary of the APO Philatelic Society Members.

“Actually, I really, really love art, and what I want in the Post Office is that they represent our culture, our heritage,” Albuladora explained when asked why he creates the artwork for free.

He promised that he would be creating two sets for PHLPost—and he made that promise come to life this year. In 2024, they unveiled the Philippine Mythical Creatures II Stamp Collections I.

“The concept was to show the known and unknown mythical creatures—those that are not widely known. Last year, we had tiyanak,” he added.

Albuladora also mentioned that stamp collecting is a dying hobby, but noted that it is still “moving and growing.” The challenge, he said, is introducing it to the younger generation.

“Apart from introducing them [stamps] to the new crowd, we have collectors that collect them until now,” he said.

“They support us, and in return, we should support them as well,” he continued.
