ILOILO CITY — The Iloilo City Government ordered a preemptive evacuation starting 3 p.m. today (3 November) in high-risk coastal and riverside communities, as Severe Tropical Storm “Tino” threatens to bring widespread heavy rains, strong winds, and storm surges that could trigger severe flooding in the city.
Mayor Raisa Treñas issued the directive upon the recommendation of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC), emphasizing that the move is meant to protect lives and prevent casualties before danger strikes.
“Preemptive evacuation means acting before danger hits — we will not wait for the water to rise or for the weather to worsen before we move,” Treñas said in a public advisory.
A total of 450 evacuation centers across the city have been opened to accommodate evacuees. These sites can shelter 47,342 families, or about 226,741 individuals.
