Aboitiz Power Corp., through its subsidiary East Asia Utilities Corp. (EAUC), has formally decommissioned its 12.4-megawatt (MW) Diesel Generator Unit 1 at its Cebu Bunker C-Fired Power Plant.
In a stock exchange report on Monday, AboitizPower said the Independent Electricity Market Operator of the Philippines confirmed the unit’s deregistration from its system, effective 30 October.
The plant was removed from the national electricity grid after a technical incident in May 2024 rendered it irreparable.
“Prior clearances from other concerned bodies such as the Department of Energy and the Energy Regulatory Commission were also secured, in accordance with the Implementing Guidelines on the Decommissioning and Mothballing of a Generating Plant,” the company said.
EAUC, however, said the plant’s three other generating units remain fully operational.
The subsidiary, fully owned by AboitizPower, has been serving Mactan Export Processing Zone 1 and the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market since it began commercial operations in May 1998.
