Vice Mayor Katrina Theresa “KT” Angeles was sworn in as the new mayor of Tarlac City on Thursday, 30 October 2025.
Angeles replaced Mayor Susan Yap following the release of a writ of execution stemming from the Commission on Elections’ (COMELEC) disqualification case against Yap over questions about her residency in the city.
According to Angeles’ office, her swearing-in as mayor is legal and effective. “Today, we took our oath not as a celebration of power, but as a reminder that leadership is given to serve, not to rule,” she said. She added, “As we officially assume the role of City Mayor, we carry this truth with us — ang tunay na pamumuno ay hindi nasusukat sa posisyon, kundi sa direksyong tinatahak natin para sa kapakanan ng bawat mamamayan.”
Angeles’ office confirmed that no temporary restraining order (TRO) was issued by the court in favor of Yap. This followed the implementation of the promulgated decision of the Comelec en banc and the execution of the rule of succession.
“No matter how circumstances may change, taong bayan pa rin po ang uunahin natin. Together, let us move forward with faith in the law, hope in our people, and love for our city,” Angeles said. Her office said her oath of office is legal, citing the COMELEC decision as final and executory.
