Comedy Queen AiAi delas Alas has once again bared her heart — this time about a deeply personal decision following her split from her husband of nearly a decade, Gerald Sibayan.
In her latest interview on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, the veteran comedienne revealed that she had officially revoked Gerald’s green card petition — a move she described as her form of closure, even revenge, after enduring emotional pain from their separation.
With raw honesty, AiAi admitted that while she initially hesitated, she eventually realized it was something she needed to do for herself.
“Noong una, ayoko talagang gawin ’yon. Pero noong bandang huli, naisip ko, parang ayoko namang maging santa or something,” she confessed. “Kahit pangit pakinggan, pero ’yon na lang ’yung ganti ko para sa sarili na nasaktan ako.”
She explained that the petition was filed upon Gerald’s request, as he had expressed his desire to live in the United States.
“Siya naman ’yung nagsabi kasi na gusto niyang pumunta ng Amerika, eh. Hindi naman ako ’yung nagbigay sa kaniya na, ‘Halika na, punta na tayong Amerika,’” AiAi said.
According to AiAi, the revocation of Gerald’s green card petition was done alongside her filing for divorce in the U.S., though the official ruling has yet to be released. The move, she said, symbolizes her complete emotional detachment from the marriage that once defined her later years.
“Ayan na, kasabay na ng divorce. Pero wala pang final decision sa kaso,” she clarified.
Despite the emotional turbulence, AiAi said she has now found peace.
“Ako ay at peace. Sabi ko nga, mayroon na akong legacy of peace.”
The revelation comes a year after AiAi confirmed that she and Gerald had gone their separate ways. In October 2024, the actress shared that Gerald ended their marriage through a message, expressing his desire to have a child and his unhappiness in their relationship.
“Sinabi niya na gusto niya magkaanak at hindi na siya happy. Medyo confused ako, shocked, and bakit ngayon? Sana hinintay mo man lang ako makauwi sa Amerika,” she recalled.
The couple’s relationship had faced several challenges over the years, including their struggle to conceive. AiAi, now 60, revealed that they attempted to have a baby through in vitro fertilization (IVF), but two out of three embryos did not survive.
She also admitted in a previous interview that Gerald had been unfaithful in 2019 — a wound that caused lasting cracks in their marriage.
By December 2024, AiAi confirmed that they were no longer communicating. Now, almost a year later, she’s embracing healing and focusing on her family — soon to welcome a grandchild — while continuing to live a life anchored in faith, comedy, and resilience.
“I may have been hurt, but I’m still grateful. Kasi kahit paano, natuto ako. At ngayon, mas kalmado na ako. I choose peace,” she said.
Through laughter and tears, AiAi delas Alas once again proves that even the Queen of Comedy knows how to turn pain into power — and closure into peace.
