ILOILO CITY — The beat of the drums begins anew. Iloilo City Mayor Raisa Treñas on 22 October officially declared the Dinagyang Festival 2026 open, marking the start of the city’s most anticipated cultural celebration.

Carrying the theme “Bugay sang Ginoo, Bugal sang mga Ilonggo” (Blessing from God, Pride of the Ilonggos), the festival promises to deliver another world-class showcase of Ilonggo faith, artistry, and unity.

During the grand launch, seven tribes were formally introduced as official contenders for the Tribe Competition 2026, namely:

  • Tribu Bulawanon of Molo District

  • Tribu Ilonganon of Jalandoni Memorial National High School

  • Tribu Taga Baryo of Bo. Obrero, Lapuz

  • Tribu Salognon of Jaro National High School

  • Tribu Ilayanhon of Graciano Lopez Jaena Elementary School

  • Tribu Pan-ay of Fort San Pedro National High School, first runner-up in Kalayaan 2025

  • Tribu Paghidaet of La Paz National High School, the defending champion and performer at the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan

Aside from the main competition, Mayor Treñas also announced that the Sadsad sa Calle Real (Barangay Contingents), ILOmination, and Kasadyahan sa Kabanwahanan will return as major highlights of next year’s festivities.

“Dinagyang is not just a festival — it is a celebration of who we are as Ilonggos,” Treñas said, underscoring the city’s commitment to keep the world-class tradition alive while promoting local creativity and tourism.

With the tribes now gearing up and preparations in full swing, Iloilo City is once again ready to bring to life the spirit of devotion, pride, and joy that make Dinagyang truly bugal sang mga Ilonggo.
