Senator Bam Aquino on Thursday, 16 October, lauded the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) for its decision to delay the implementation of the mandatory Trustmark requirement for online businesses.
Aquino said the DTI's move would ease the compliance burden on online micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
The DTI announced that the Trustmark requirement would remain voluntary until the end of the year while it conducts consultations with industry stakeholders before issuing a final policy.
The Trustmark is a digital badge that serves as government recognition for online merchants and platforms that commit to trustworthiness, safety, and fair e-commerce practices.
Aquino also urged the DTI to intensify its campaign against scams on online selling platforms in line with the celebration of Consumer Welfare Month.
"We call on the DTI to intensify the campaign against scams on online selling platforms, which we expect to increase this holiday season," he added.
He likewise reminded consumers to remain vigilant against scam activities and to verify the legitimacy of online sellers before making any purchases.
