Commuters with Philippine National ID can now ride the MRT-3 for free every Wednesday this August as part of a joint campaign by the Philippine Statistics Authority and the Department of Transportation (DoTr).

The free rides are available from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. To avail of the promotion, passengers need to present their National ID in a card, paper or digital format at any MRT-3 station.

According to MRT-3, the initiative is meant to encourage the widespread use of the National ID as a convenient tool for everyday transactions. The Philippine Identification System is expected to streamline public and private sector services, making access to benefits and programs more inclusive and efficient.

This campaign is the latest in a series of free-ride programs organized with the DoTr. Earlier this year, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. declared four days of free train rides for Labor Day, and free rides were provided to people with disabilities from 17 to 23 July in observance of National Disability Rights Week.

In addition to the weekday promotions, a “Buy 1, Get 3 Free” campaign is also running on the LRT-1, LRT-2 and MRT-3 every Sunday until the last Sunday of 2028. The program encourages families to use mass transit for weekend activities.
