The woman abducted in Ormoc City, Leyte, was found dead Monday, 4 August, in Barangay 99-Diit, Tacloban City, police confirmed.
The Police Regional Office 8 said the body recovered from the seawaters off Barangay 99-Diit has been positively identified as the same woman reported missing following a 31 July abduction in Ormoc City.
A fisherman discovered the corpse, which was later identified through the victim’s tattoos and physical features during a follow-up investigation by police. Her identity was confirmed by family members at a local funeral home, where the body was being kept before autopsy, according to the Tacloban City Police Office.
Authorities said the confirmation was the result of coordination between the Tacloban and Ormoc City police offices. According to earlier reports, the victim was forcibly taken by three unidentified armed men who abducted her in Barangay Valencia, Ormoc City, and fled toward Kananga, Leyte, in a black vehicle.
Police Brig. Gen. Jay Cumigad said all efforts are being made to uncover the circumstances behind the woman’s abduction and death.
“We are committed to pursuing justice for the victim and her family,” Cumigad said.
Law enforcement units across the region are continuing their joint investigation.
