UdM graduates told: Believe in yourselves

Manila Vice Mayor Chi Atienza has urged graduates of the Universidad de Manila (UdM) to embrace their potential and dedicate their lives to a purpose greater than themselves.

In her address during UDM’s 27th Commencement Exercises, Atienza disclosed her own experiences as a working student, actress and entrepreneur, recounting both successes and failures.

She encouraged the graduates to pursue a life defined by selfless service and a higher calling, rather than personal gain. UDM president Dr. Felma Carlos-Tria joined her in leading the ceremony.

“The secret to life really is to surrender your decisions, to surrender your ambition, and to give your life to the Lord and for the betterment of those around you,” Atienza said. “And if you follow that path, I can assure you 101 percent you will make it in life.”

Tria stated that Atienza’s message offers hope and guidance, encouraging graduates to trust their potential and confidently face future challenges.

Atienza stressed that challenges and obstacles are not just hurdles but are essential for personal growth and preparedness.

“Looking back at my life, I know if the Lord did not put me in the paths where he led me, I would not be ready to face you today and to tell you that if I can do it, so can you,” Atienza said.
