A drinking spree ended in tragedy after a 27-year-old man was fatally stabbed while trying to stop a fight between his drinking companions in Sitio Malanim, Palos Tangke, Barangay Dela Paz, Antipolo City, on Monday night.
The victim was identified only by the alias “Giovanni,” who lived with his partner in Barangay Dela Paz.
Initial investigation revealed that the incident occurred during a drinking session to celebrate the birthday of a man identified as alias “Marvin.” During the gathering, a heated argument broke out between the 50-year-old suspect, identified as alias “Romy,” a construction worker, and another companion, alias “Niño.”
The victim reportedly tried to intervene and pacify the situation when, without apparent provocation, the suspect suddenly stabbed him with a knife, striking the left side of his lower armpit.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Within five minutes of receiving the report, patrolling officers responded promptly, arrested the suspect at the scene, and recovered the bladed weapon—a kitchen knife measuring approximately nine inches long, including the handle—used in the attack.
An investigation is ongoing. Authorities have requested an autopsy examination to determine the official cause of death.
The suspect was brought to the Rizal Provincial Hospital System–Antipolo Annex II for a physical examination and was later turned over to the Antipolo City Component Police Station for proper disposition.
