Nissan’s upcoming entry into the subcompact crossover battle may be one step away from hitting local showrooms. The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has released the homologation papers for the Nissan Magnite, making it officially eligible for registration and sale in the Philippines.
This development suggests that Nissan is perhaps nearly ready to bring in its competitor to the Toyota Raize and Kia Sonet.
According to the LTO documents, the two variants listed in the filing are the VE Turbo and the top-spec VL Turbo. Both versions are expected to come with a 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbocharged engine, similar to what’s under the hood of the current Almera. This engine delivers 100 PS and 152 Nm of torque, paired with a CVT that powers the front wheels.
The Philippine-spec Magnite measures 3,999mm in length, 1,938mm in width, and 1,572mm in height, with a 2,501mm wheelbase and 203mm of ground clearance. These numbers should make it agile enough for city driving, yet roomy enough for small families.
For those who saw the Nissan display at the 2024 Philippine International Motor Show, the Magnite may look familiar. At the time, Nissan was still gauging public interest. The homologation now points toward a more concrete plan.
The Magnite is shaping up to be more than just a budget choice. It features a 7-inch digital driver display, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, cruise control, a rearview camera, and keyless entry with push-button start (features may vary per variant).
Other variants will get LED bi-projector headlamps, 16-inch alloy wheels, a 360-degree Around View Monitor, and possibly even Nissan’s Vehicle Dynamic Control and Hill Start Assist. This tech is not always found in this category.
The Magnite also prioritizes cabin space. Nissan claims a best-in-class 700mm rear seat couple distance and a 336-liter trunk, decent numbers for a car of its size.
There’s no word yet on pricing or exact launch dates if that will ever happen. But with the paperwork in, we’re hoping it won’t be long before the Magnite takes its place on showroom floors.
