Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise. But how can one be if we are all sleep deprived?

According to the Philippine Society of Sleep Medicine Inc. (PSSMI), the Philippines ranks first in Southeast Asia and fourth globally as the “most sleep deprived” nation. Two of the most common sleep disorders among Filipinos, it added, are insomnia and sleep apnea.

Dr. Jimmy Chang, president of PSSMI, underscores the significance of sleep depth or quality. Among those that can help improve sleep is a good mattress.

Filipino home brand Mooni, which is aiming to revolutionize the luxury sleep essentials market, feels that a mattress should emphasize how comfort is individualized and dependent on people’s own tastes.

The brand, which draws its name from the moon and how it represents calmness, restfulness, and renewal effortlessly, offers two types of mattresses: classic and luxury.

The classic mattress is composed of soft and durable Oeko-Tex Standard 100-certified 585 GSM Belgian fabric. It has a removable and washable top cover with cooling technology that reportedly regulates temperature. A four-centimeter Comfort Layer of memory foam with 30D gel infusion underneath aims to relieve pressure in the body. The next layer is intended to support the spine and improve sleep quality by adding a bouncing feel.

The Twice-tempered Pocketed Springs of the classic variant are incorporated with 2.3 millimeter springs along the perimeter to ensure stability across the entire mattress. Its Knitted Fabric Base is made out of non-woven fabric and polyester fiber.

The luxury edition, on the other hand, features the Luxurious Comfort Layer, a four-centimeter 50D gel-infused memory foam that provides pressure relief, which lies beneath the removable and washable top cover. The layer under is designed for spinal support, absorbing body pressure, and gives the bed that bounciness for effortless turning while sleeping during the night.

The luxury variant also features its own support layer composed of a four-centimeter 30D high-density support foam that helps provide proper body alignment by evenly distributing body weight to the twice-tempered pocketed springs foundation. Additionally, the mattress is equipped with Flippable Base for lasting ease.

The brand’s eco-friendly and modular design lets you replace or adjust the comfort and support layers over time, ensuring a long-term, customizable sleep solution. Mattresses come in different sizes: Single, Twin, Double, Queen and Super King.

“Creating (the brand) from scratch wasn’t easy. We had no blueprint — just an idea and a clear goal to build something different. From product development to logo design, everything was a trial-and-error process. One of the biggest challenges was defining our identity in such a saturated market. What helped us push through was staying curious, listening to real customer needs, and working closely as a small, passionate team. Little by little, (the brand) found its voice — playful, thoughtful, and truly ours,” managing director Jam Chan Chua said.
