BAGUIO CITY — Some municipalities of Cagayan province suspended classes Thursday in anticipation of strong rains and possible winds brought by the low pressure area (LPA) enhanced by the southwest monsoon.

The towns of Aparri, Calamaniugan and Sto. Niño announced the suspension of classes in all levels. Classes in Pre-School until Grade 12 levels, meanwhile, were suspended at Gonzaga and Sta. Teresita.

Based on the last weather report of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), as of 5 a.m. of 3 July expected heavy rainfall in Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Kalinga, Ilocos Norte and Apayao will be at 50-100 millimeter. The weather station also reported that the LPA was spotted 125 kilometers East Northeast of Aparri, Cagayan.

According to PAGASA, the weather disturbance will go nearer extreme Northern Luzon bringing heavy rains in Batanes and Babuyan Islands for the next days.

Meanwhile, the tropical depression with an international name “Mun” was spotted at 2,500 kilometers East Northeast of extreme Northern Luzon moving West at 15 km per hour.
