Outgoing Marikina City Mayor Marcelino “Marcy” Teodoro on Thursday welcomed the Commission on Elections (Comelec) en banc ruling that reversed the earlier decision of its First Division cancelling his certificate of candidacy (COC) for congressman.
Teodoro said the ruling was "a victory for the people of Marikina," as it affirmed the legitimacy of his COC for representative of the city’s First District.
"The poll body found no material misrepresentation in my certificate of candidacy. It also found no abandonment of my domicile in the first district,” Teodoro said in a statement.
Teodoro emphasized that his personal and political ties have always been rooted in Barangay San Roque. “I was able to clearly prove my actual and physical residency there,” he added.
“With this latest development, there is no more hindrance to my proclamation as the duly elected representative of our district. It affirms what we’ve believed from the beginning — that the voice of the people matters and should never be silenced,” he said.
Teodoro defeated outgoing Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III in the 2025 midterm elections, garnering 75,062 votes against Pimentel’s 29,091.
