First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos accompanied President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and the Philippine delegation in their recent visit to the Osaka Expo 2025 in Japan. Among the highlights was the visit to the Philippine Pavilion.
“The Philippine Pavilion at World Expo 2025 is a beautiful celebration of who we are,” she said. “It weaves together our culture, natural wonders and vibrant communities. Every detail [is] a tribute to the heart and soul of the Filipino.”
Mrs. Marcos emphasized that the pavilion “lets the world feel the warmth, pride, and magic of the Philippines.”
The Philippine delegation visited the pavilion not only once, but twice, reiterating the interconnectedness of stories, traditions, and friendships across borders.
With the title “Woven,” the Philippine exhibition showcases the interconnectedness of the country with nature, culture, and community.
In return for the warm welcome and personal invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru, the First Couple also visited the Japanese Pavilion at the Expo.
“What a truly special experience it was to visit the Expo Guest House and the Japan Pavilion at World Expo 2025,” Mrs. Marcos said.
“Both spaces beautifully reflect Japan’s deep reverence for nature, community, and craftsmanship -- each detail so thoughtful and serene. It’s a powerful reminder that when culture and innovation come together, they can help shape a more compassionate and connected world,” she added.
Japan’s Ambassador to the Philippines Haneda Koji hosted the First Couple.
The Philippine delegation also found time to take a break between meetings with Japan’s business sector and inviting tourists to the pavilion by having a team dinner.
“Sharing a lovely meal with dear friends – good food, great company, and even better memories,” the First Lady said.
Of course, in the President’s schedule overseas, he will never miss a chance to meet with the Filipino community, she added.
As President Marcos thanked our kababayan for strengthening Philippine–Japan relations through shared their values and partnerships, the First Lady touched on the personal side of the overseas Filipino workers noting their hardships and sacrifices.
“Meeting our incredible kababayan here in Osaka truly warmed my heart. Even when miles away from home, you carry the Philippines with you –– in your kindness, your smiles, your resilience, and the way you care for one another,” she said.
“Thank you for being living reminders of the strength and beauty of the Filipino spirit. You make us so proud,” she added.
Before returning to Manila on Sunday, Mrs. Marcos thanked the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo and the Philippine Consulate in Osaka for their assistance in the working visit of the Philippine delegation.
“Deeply grateful to the amazing team at the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo, the Philippine Consulate in Osaka, and the kindhearted staff at the Ritz Carlton for the warm welcome and care you extended to us,” she said.
“There’s something so special about being surrounded by our kababayan who lead with kindness, serve with strength, and shine with quiet excellence –– no matter where in the world they are,” she added.
