Newport World Resorts is reshaping what environmental leadership means in the Philippine hospitality industry. Achievement of a Year 3 Silver EarthCheck Certification has placed the premier lifestyle and leisure destination among the region’s most rigorously benchmarked integrated resorts. For the company, this certification is not the final goal, but the foundation for deeper accountability — evidence that systems for sustainable performance are not only in place, but consistently maintained across operations, assets and teams.
This foundation has supported the growth of the I LOVE Earth program, which has transformed sustainability from an aspirational goal into a daily operational standard. In 2024, Newport World Resorts diverted a total of 987.24 metric tons of waste from disposal. This included 640.43 metric tons through recycling, 311.33 metric tons through anaerobic digestion, and 11.64 metric tons through composting.
A waste diversion rate of 36 percent was achieved across hotel, kitchen, and support operations. Hazardous waste, including used oils, lead-acid batteries and electronic waste, was processed in partnership with the ABS-CBN Foundation. Proceeds from these recovery initiatives were directed toward environmental and community development programs.
These outcomes reflect the “R” pillar of the I LOVE Earth framework — to reform, reduce, reuse, and repurpose. Circular practices are embedded across operations. Food waste is managed through ORCA digesters. Used kitchen oil is converted into biodiesel. Office digitization has reduced paper use by more than 30 percent. Uniforms and linens are repurposed into functional apparel, and organic waste is processed into natural cleaning agents. Guest-facing operations have also shifted toward sustainable alternatives. Plastic bottled water has been removed from guest rooms and banquet facilities and replaced with an in-house glass bottling system. Bulk amenity dispensers are now used across accommodations, while food and beverage outlets have transitioned to eighty percent biodegradable packaging, supported by vendor audits and compliance checks.
Each initiative forms part of a broader transformation driven by the H.E.A.R.T. framework, which spans healthy, responsible, and sustainable sourcing; environmental impact; active benchmarking and certification; reforming, reducing, reusing, and repurposing; and transforming through teaching, training, and technology. I LOVE Earth unites all brands and teams across the property under one sustainability vision, ensuring continuity of purpose and accountability in action.
On World Environment Day, Newport World Resorts renews its invitation to the industry. In a time where environmental resilience requires urgent and collective action, the company affirms its commitment to closing the loop — demonstrating that the path to sustainable growth begins with responsibility and is sustained by purpose.
