A pregnant woman gave birth on the side of EDSA in Balintawak, Barangay Balingasa, Quezon City on Wednesday morning, 19 June — with the quick assistance of officers from the Quezon City Police District (QCPD).

According to Lt. Col. Gilbert Cruz, the woman, identified only as Cristina, approached authorities in visible distress and complained of severe abdominal pain.

"She was already seated there," Cruz recounted in Filipino.

"The baby was already pushed out from her body. Our officers did not hesitate to assist and provide her first aid," he said.

An ambulance was dispatched and arrived shortly after to transport both mother and newborn to a nearby hospital for further care.

Authorities have yet to determine why Cristina was in that area at such an early hour, but officials assured she and her baby are now safe.
