Meralco PowerGen Corp. (MGEN), through its subsidiary PacificLight Power Pte. Ltd. (PLP), has expanded its overseas portfolio after it completed and commissioned a 100-megawatt (MW) Fast Start Ancillary Services facility on Jurong Island, Singapore.
The Pangilinan-led firm said on Wednesday that the new plant, powered by Siemens Energy gas turbines, adds rapid-response generation capacity to PLP’s operations and is designed to support Singapore’s grid during unplanned outages or system disturbances.
It supplements PLP’s existing 830 MW combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plant, which has been operating since 2014.
“This milestone reflects our commitment to investing in high-efficiency, future-ready technologies that address reliability and sustainability challenges.
Through PLP, we are proud to contribute to Singapore’s energy security while expanding our regional footprint with innovation at the core,” MGEN President and CEO Emmanuel V. Rubio said.
The project was completed with over 480,000 man-hours and no lost-time injuries.
To sustain growth momentum, PLP is also preparing to build a 670 MW hydrogen-ready CCGT power plant on Jurong Island, scheduled to begin operations in January 2029.
The facility will include Singapore’s first large-scale battery energy storage system, which will support grid stability and the country’s low-carbon energy transition.
MGEN said it remains committed to addressing Singapore’s growing electricity demand through smart, sustainable, and scalable energy investments.
