Third-generation CX-5 adds hybrid power and extra room

SPORT tan Nappa leather seats and a panoramic sunroof furnish the roomier CX-5 cabin.
PASSENGERS get more rear knee room and headroom beneath the CX-5’s panoramic glass roof.
A 15.6-inch touchscreen anchors the dashboard and manages infotainment, climate functions and the 360-degree camera.
Mazda Philippines has launched the all-new 2027 CX-5 with a larger body, a roomier cabin and its first hybrid powertrain. The compact SUV comes in one 2.5L AWD HEV Premium Plus variant and costs P2,495,000.
The third-generation model is 115 mm longer, 15 mm wider and 30 mm taller than the vehicle it replaces. Its wheelbase also gains 115 mm and now measures 2,815 mm. Overall length is 4,690 mm, while ground clearance stands at 205 mm.
Those added dimensions address one of the practical limits of the previous CX-5. Rear knee room grows by 64 mm and headroom rises by 29 mm.
Mazda also enlarged the rear door opening by 70 mm, which should make access easier for children, older passengers and anyone who needs to load a child seat.
The cargo floor is about 45 mm deeper, so bigger pieces of luggage can stand upright. A 40/20/40 split-folding rear seat adds flexibility, while a hands-free power tailgate comes as standard.
Mazda kept the familiar CX-5 shape but gave the SUV a higher nose, sharper light units and a broader stance.
The rear now carries linear LED lamps and MAZDA lettering in place of the usual badge. Black lower cladding and 19-inch black metallic wheels are also fitted.
Cabin equipment includes sport tan Nappa leather seats, Japanese Sen wood trim and a panoramic sunroof.
Both front seats have power adjustment and ventilation, while the driver gets a 10-way seat with two memory settings. Seven-color ambient lighting is fitted to the front door panels.
A 15.6-inch central touchscreen handles infotainment, the 360-degree camera and climate functions that previously used physical controls. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included.
The driver also gets a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel, a windshield head-up display and a 12-speaker Bose sound system.
The CX-5 is the first Mazda model to use the brand’s E/E Architecture+, which supports its new electronics and in-car interface.
Capacitive steering-wheel switches control media, drive modes and the camera. They accept slide gestures for volume adjustments but retain a rocker-style press action.
The new CX-5 uses a 2.5-liter e-Skyactiv-G gasoline engine with Mazda’s hybrid system. Output is rated at 181 PS and 242 Nm, while the integrated electric motor produces 6.5 horsepower and 60.5 Nm.
A recalibrated six-speed automatic transmission sends power to all four wheels. Normal, Sport and Off-Road modes are available.
Mazda revised the suspension with softer springs, retuned dampers and changes to the anti-roll bars. The steering and accelerator response were also adjusted. Extra insulation and an engine balancer shaft help cut cabin noise and vibration.
Safety equipment includes six airbags, Mazda Radar Cruise Control, front and rear automatic braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist and blind-spot monitoring.
Front and rear cross-traffic alerts can also apply the brakes. A driver monitor, parking sensors and the 360-degree camera complete the driver-assistance package.
Mazda Philippines president and CEO Steven Tan said the CX-5 has been a central model for the distributor since Bermaz Auto Philippines took over the brand. Global sales of the nameplate have reached five million units.
The P2,495,000 price includes a three-year bumper-to-bumper warranty and a complimentary five-year service plan.
Six body colors are offered, and Navy Blue Mica is new to the Mazda range. Mazda Philippines also plans to add a front-wheel-drive HEV variant next year.
