
This July, the spotlight returns to the legends of local filmmaking as the Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (SPEEd) rolls out the red carpet for the 8th edition of The EDDYS: The Entertainment Editors’ Choice. Set for 20 July 2025, at the Ceremonial Hall of the Marriott Grand Ballroom, Newport World Resorts in Pasay City, the prestigious awards night will celebrate the icons and storytellers who have defined and elevated Philippine cinema.
A highlight of this year’s celebration is the Movie Icon Awards, honoring veteran artists whose work has left a lasting imprint on the industry. This year’s honorees include:
Laurice Guillen – Acclaimed filmmaker and actress whose career spans generations
Odette Khan – Respected for her strong screen presence and unforgettable roles
Perla Bautista – A revered figure in both classic and contemporary Filipino films
Pen Medina – Known for his commitment to both art and advocacy
Rosemarie Gil and Eddie Mesa – The legendary couple whose contributions shaped Philippine entertainment history
These recognitions underscore SPEEd’s mission to celebrate the passion and resilience of those who have championed Filipino storytelling across decades.
The 2025 EDDYS will also confer 14 competitive awards in performance and technical categories, honoring the best works released in cinemas and digital platforms in 2024. The event continues to reflect the rich and evolving landscape of Philippine filmmaking.
Special recognitions will also be awarded, including:
The Isah V. Red Award – For individuals or groups who inspire through compassion and public service
The Joe Quirino and Manny Pichel Awards – For excellence and integrity in entertainment journalism
Producer of the Year – For a visionary filmmaker whose work shaped social and cinematic discourse
EDDYS Box Office Heroes – Returning for a second year, this honor recognizes artists whose work helped fuel the industry’s recovery post-pandemic
The 8th EDDYS is co-presented by Newport World Resorts and ABS-CBN, and produced by Brightlight Entertainment under the leadership of Pat-P Daza, with Eric Quizon returning as director.
The ceremony will be aired via delayed telecast on Kapamilya Channel and Jeepney TV, and streamed globally on iWantTFC on 27 July, 2025.
