On the day when every Filipino is entitled to show their patriotism, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. fueled the hearts of every proud Pinoy and urged them to continue to fight for freedom.
In his remarks, Marcos told Filipinos not to forget the freedom they enjoy at present.
Marcos pointed out that in other places around the world, the idea of freedom seemingly fades away due to various factors.
"If we will look at what is happening around the world today, freedom is fleeting. Fake news, misinformation, herd mentality can erase our way of life, our culture, our value system that we hold so dear," he said.
He explained that endless lies, fake news, and misinformation continue to plague the freedom of the Philippines.
Marcos also took a swipe at individuals who "insists" on wrong beliefs for selfish reasons.
"Nakakalungkot din na may ilan din sa ating mga kababayan ay pinipilit ang maling paniniwala para sa interes ng iba at hindi para sa kapakanan ng ating mga kababayang Pilipino (It is also sad that some of our countrymen are also pushing false beliefs for the interest of others and not for the welfare of our fellow Filipinos)," he said.
Marcos reminded Filipinos to remain vigilant in consuming and sharing information.
He also urged them to be good even when no one is looking, to stand up if mistakes are made, and to remain united amid differences.
"Let us honor this day not just by remembering the sacrifices of our forefathers," he said. "We must live with the same courage and love of country; for freedom is not just something that we inherit but a right that we must protect every single day."
Today, 12 June 2025, the Philippines celebrates its 127th Independence Day.
