Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero on Monday said that no resolution has been filed yet regarding the de facto dismissal of the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte.
“Wala pa rin akong nakikitang resolusyon. Yung nilabas niyong resolusyon — kayo naman ang naglabas noon, hindi naman ang Senado,” Escudero told reporters at a press conference.
“Hanggat walang fina-file, wala kaming maaaksyunan o inaaksyunan,” he added.
On Wednesday, Senator Ronald dela Rosa, a known Duterte ally, confirmed that he was behind the draft resolution that seeks to “de facto” dismiss the impeachment case against Duterte, which appeared to prevent the presentation of the Articles of Impeachment scheduled for 11 June.
To recall, Escudero had moved the presentation of the Articles of Impeachment to 11 June — the final session day of the 19th Congress.
Initially scheduled for 2 June, the presentation of the Articles of Impeachment marks the beginning of the impeachment proceedings in the Senate, which would then constitute itself as an impeachment court.
This is a developing story.
