The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) is working with the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) to investigate a fatal truck accident that claimed three lives on Batasan-San Mateo Road late Wednesday night.
LTFRB spokesperson Atty. Ariel Inton said in a radio interview on Thursday that the agency is verifying whether the 18-wheeler truck involved in the incident had an active franchise. If confirmed, a show cause order will be issued to the truck operator and driver, requiring them to explain the circumstances of the crash.
The 38-year-old driver is now under police custody. He apologized to the victims' families and said he lost control of the steering wheel after the truck’s brakes failed. The truck was carrying construction materials from the pier and was bound for Marikina City when the incident occurred.
According to police reports, the truck lost its brakes at around 11:30 PM and rammed into two motorcycles, a car, and an AUV. Authorities have yet to release the names of the victims, pending notification of their families.
