Senator Jinggoy Estrada confirmed that his son and nephew were assaulted by local residents in Boracay early Saturday morning.
The incident occurred around 2:15 a.m. on Saturday, 24 May, near Summer Place in Barangay Balabag, Malay, Aklan.
According to police, the victims had just left a bar and were walking toward their accommodations when three unidentified men followed and attacked them from behind in front of a local establishment.
One suspect allegedly hit Estrada’s son in the head, then repeatedly kicked him after he fell to the ground, chipping his toenail. His nephew sustained an injury to the nose. Both are currently recuperating in the hospital.
Police responded quickly, prompting the suspects to flee. A chase ensued, but the perpetrators initially escaped.
A follow-up investigation led to the identification of two suspects — an 18-year-old and a 19-year-old male, both from Barangay Manocmanoc, Boracay Island, Malay, Aklan.
Senator Estrada said he flew to Boracay on Sunday, and charges have been filed against the suspects.
