MMDA hands BJMP campaign trash for recycling

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will donate campaign materials used during the 2025 elections to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) for recycling.
The used materials will be repurposed into saleable items for the benefit of persons deprived of liberty.
Immediately after the national and local elections concluded, MMDA personnel began collecting campaign paraphernalia across Metro Manila.
MMDA Chair Don Artes said the agency will donate the collected materials to the BJMP for reproduction as tote bags and other marketable products made by detainees.
On 13-14 May, the MMDA launched “Oplan Baklas,” a cleanup operation that targeted campaign materials in the region’s 17 local government units.
Through the operation, the MMDA reported that approximately 10,100 kilograms, or 11.18 tons, of campaign materials were removed on the first day of cleanup following the May 2025 midterm elections.
The report indicated that a total of 23,452 campaign items were collected in 16 cities and one municipality in the National Capital Region.
Most of the removed posters came from Manila, with 4.05 tons, followed by Muntinlupa with 1.66 tons, and Districts II, V and VI of Quezon City with 1.27 tons.
