A resident of Salisbury, North Carolina, United States, was twice lucky in winning the state lottery.

Cristien Breton won the $2-million jackpot from a $20 scratch-off lottery in August 2024. He collected $858,006 after taxes were deducted, WBTC reported at the time, according to the New York Post (NYP).

Early this month, Breton bought a $100,000 Cash Payday instant scratch-off ticket from the North Carolina Education Lottery. The game offers more than 80 $100,000 prizes, and Breton won one of them. He collected $72,000 after tax deductions.

The lucky lottery player has pledged to use the winnings to help prepare neighborhood kids for the upcoming school reopening, NYP reported.

Meanwhile, someone else has been collecting the pensions of senior citizens from Santa Ana, Manila, eliciting complaints from their families.

A sibling of Santos Conde saw the 84-year-old’s name on a list of pension payouts for senior citizens of the barangay when she recently claimed her own pension, GMA News reported.

Conde’s sister, Dara, also saw on the list the name of their late brother-in-law, Efren dela Rosa. There were signatures for Conde and Dela Rosa in the pension disbursement record, indicating that their P500 payouts for January, February and March 2026 had been claimed, according to GMA News.

Dara immediately reported to the Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) in Manila City Hall that someone pretending to be her brother, who had also died four years ago like Dela Rosa, had been claiming his pension.

The OSCA found out that a total of 10 dead senior citizens of the barangay were still on the payout list, with their pensions being claimed. Only the barangay captain is authorized to handle pension payout documents, but he denied claiming their pensions.

The captain later asked the sister of the late Conde and the wife of Dela Rosa to withdraw their complaint in return for receiving the equivalent of two months’ salary of the dead pensioners. But the relatives reported their complaint to the police, which said the captain may face malversation of public funds, falsification of public documents and estafa charges.
