Senator Imee Marcos, one of the winning candidates proclaimed by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Saturday, expressed her gratitude to former President Rodrigo Duterte and Vice President Sara Duterte for playing a part in her win.
After thanking her family, Marcos also wasted no time thanking the Dutertes in her speech.
"Kay Presidente Duterte, ang ating dating Pangulo na Oktubre pa lamang itinaas na ang aking kamay at sa kanyang anak na hanggang sa huling sandali, si VP Inday Sara ay ako'y kinakampanya (To President Duterte, our former President who raised my hand as early as October, and to his daughter, Vice President Inday Sara who, until the last moment, campaigned for me)," Marcos, who landed on the 12th place, said.
"Sa inyong lahat ang tagumpay na ito kahit gaano kailap at kahirap ay isang katibayan na kapag ikaw ay nanindigan para sa tama, mananalo ka (This victory is to all of you, no matter how elusive and difficult, is proof that when you stand up for what is right, you will win)," she added.
However, it was evident that Marcos did not mention her younger brother, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
In an ambush interview, the older Marcos was asked why she did not mention the President in her speech.
"Nakalimutan ko na. Wala akong kodigo (I forgot already. I didn't have notes with me)," she told reporters.
To recall, the President dropped her sister from the senatorial slate of the administration-backed Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas in the middle of the midterm polls campaign. This was after she launched an investigation into the arrest of former President Duterte.
The senator was later endorsed by the Vice President.
