Win or lose, Pasig City mayoral candidate Sarah Discaya says her commitment to helping Pasigueños will continue through medical missions and charitable work.
“May the best man win. I’m ready to shake the winner’s hand,” Discaya told reporters after casting her vote at Bambang Elementary School on Monday. “Of course, I’d be disappointed if I don’t win, but I still consider myself a winner. I lost weight and I met so many people along the way.”
Discaya, a first-time voter, was joined by her husband Curlee and son Gerrard at the polling center.
“It’s a new experience for me,” she said. “I’m excited to meet people, whether or not they support me. And I’m grateful that so many welcomed me and were willing to shake my hand.”
She admitted it took her several attempts to register before she finally succeeded at a Comelec satellite office.
When asked if she feels confident about her chances against incumbent Mayor Vico Sotto, she replied, “Yes, in a way — but you also have to be prepared for anything.”
Discaya said what she enjoyed most about the campaign was connecting with people, especially those from underserved communities.
“You really understand their struggles,” she said. “And I can relate. Once upon a time, I experienced many of the same challenges.”
Discaya also addressed rumors that she would reclaim goods or aid distributed during the campaign.
“Do you take back a gift after you give it?” she said. “The Lord has blessed me and my family with good health, and that’s enough.”
She also emphasized that her construction company would not bid for any local infrastructure projects if she wins.
