Netflix is set to increase its subscription rates in the Philippines following the implementation of a value-added tax (VAT) on digital services provided by foreign companies, starting 1 June.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. recently signed Republic Act (RA) 12023 or the "Digital Service Act," which imposes a 12-percent VAT on foreign digital service providers.
Subscribers have received emails advising them of the updated price list for Netflix subscription plans.
The new prices are as follows:
Mobile: P169/month
Basic: P279/month
Standard: P449/month
Premium: P619/month
Other streaming services are also expected to announce price adjustments.
