Mayoral aspirant Sarah Discaya has vowed to construct a modern waste management facility and implement comprehensive flood control projects to ease residents' perennial concerns during the rainy season.

Discaya stressed the necessity of a dependable waste facility with effective management and adequate flood control measures to prevent flooding in Pasig City.

"We no longer want flooding during the rainy season in Pasig to be normal," Discaya said. "With the help of modern waste management and proper flood control systems, every Pasigueño is sure to be safe during times of disaster."

Discaya's platform is rooted in her personal experience during Typhoon Ondoy, when she reportedly had to wade through floodwaters in Pasig City to retrieve borrowed money for her children's needs.

"Severe flooding during the rainy season in Pasig should not happen again. That's why we want a flood control platform with concrete actions, from dredging waterways, improving drainage, and using modern technology to prevent flooding," she added, advocating for a "smart waste facility" and robust flood control measures due to Pasig's vulnerability to flooding.

She also highlighted the importance of these initiatives in safeguarding the health of Pasigueños and preventing flood-related illnesses such as leptospirosis, which is transmitted through animal urine in floodwaters.

"Let's help each other to make Pasig safe, clean, and prepared for the coming rainy season," Discaya said.

The proposed "smart waste facility" is part of Discaya's broader "smart city" vision, which also includes "smart schools" and "smart hospitals."
