The Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) — the country’s largest power distributor — has assured uninterrupted electricity service across its franchise areas during the midterm elections.
Meralco vice president Joe R. Zaldarriaga said in an interview that the company has intensified efforts to ensure power stability on Election Day.
He added that Meralco is coordinating with government agencies, including the Commission on Elections, and has extended collaboration to the barangay level.
To further ensure power security, the Department of Energy (DoE) has formed an election task force to oversee power plant operations at maximum capacity.
The DoE confirmed that no major repairs or maintenance would be scheduled for power plants at least one week before or after the elections.
Also, the Energy department is inspecting transmission lines for necessary repairs and preparing solar lamps and generators for areas with limited electricity access. The agency continues to work with stakeholders to meet the country’s power needs during the summer.
To recall, the Senate Committee on Energy has demanded the DoE and the Energy Regulatory Commission ensure uninterrupted power supply nationwide on Election Day.
