San Juan has been officially declared the first drug-cleared city in Metro Manila, according to the Regional Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug Clearing.
The committee is composed of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, Department of the Interior and Local Government, Philippine National Police and Department of Health.
San Juan achieved 100 percent drug-cleared status across all its barangays in 2023, a prerequisite for the city-wide declaration. While barangay-level clearance is a significant step, the recognition of a city as drug-cleared is a separate and higher distinction based on stricter criteria.
In addition to its drug-free status, San Juan City also has the lowest crime volume in Metro Manila.
The official Drug Cleared City Certificate and Barangay Seal of Excellence will be formally issued after the Commission on Elections moratorium is lifted, but the declaration is already in effect.
