The Department of Health (DoH) on Sunday reported at least 288 road accidents during the Holy Week period.

Of the recorded incidents, 235 individuals were not using safety gear such as helmets or seatbelts, and 221 of the accidents involved motorcycles and the agency cited that at least 20 individuals involved in the accidents were under the influence of alcohol.

Tragically, four individuals died in these road incidents, all of whom were on board motorcycles.

The DoH said that the number of road accident cases recorded during this period was 35 percent lower compared to the same period in 2024.

Meanwhile, the DoH reminded the public to avoid driving while tired or drunk. They also emphasized the importance of wearing safety gear, such as helmets for motorcyclists and seatbelts for drivers and vehicle passengers, and adhering to speed limits and road signs to ensure safe travel and prevent accidents.

“Make sure to have seven to eight hours of sleep before traveling to stay alert and ready to drive. Also avoid any distractions, such as using a cellphone,” the DoH said in a statement.

“Above all, be calm, composed and understanding towards fellow motorists. Drive carefully and practice defensive driving,” it added.
