As Catholics observe Holy Week, Vice President Sara Duterte emphasized the importance of reflecting on Jesus’ sacrifice to save humanity from sin.
“I join the Filipino people in praying, fasting, and opening our hearts this Holy Week,” Duterte said in a Lenten message.
“May the sacrifice of Jesus be a guiding light for us, helping to strengthen our faith in times of weakness, despair, or when burdened with anger and ill intentions toward others,” she said.
Duterte noted that Lent is also a time for healing and conversion.
“Amid the nation’s trials and growing disunity, Lent calls us to healing, conversion, and a return to our Filipino values of care, faith and unity,” she said.
“May we emulate Jesus’ love — teach it, spread it, and use it to uplift and strengthen communities of faith. Let us remain united in faith, for together we will overcome the darkness,” the Vice President said.
