In response to a 133-percent increase in measles cases in Metro Manila from 1 January to 15 February 2025 compared to the previous year, the Department of Health (DoH) has made Mandaluyong, Quezon City, Manila, Caloocan, Taguig and Las Piñas as priority areas for its nationwide vaccination campaign for the disease.

Mayor Abby Binay, however, has mobilized Makati City’s health workers for its own measles catch-up vaccination campaign to maintain its strong health record. From 17 March, the city’s house-to-house and health center immunization campaign targets nearly 10,000 children aged 9 to 59 months across all barangays within one month.

To be prioritized are children who have not yet received two doses of the measles vaccine, which is essential for full protection against the disease. The campaign complements Makati’s regular year-round vaccination programs, which have contributed significantly to the city’s strong immunization rates.

“Our vaccination drives in Makati’s public schools have benefited both residents and non-residents, covering students residing in neighboring cities like Manila, Pasay and Taguig. We aim to provide 100 percent protection to all our students regardless of their place of residence,” Binay said.
