The Philippine Embassy in Yangon, Myanmar, is closely monitoring the situation of Filipinos who may have been affected by the powerful magnitude 7.7 earthquake that struck the country.
In a statement posted on social media, the embassy assured the public that it is actively assisting and deploying a team to check on the welfare of Filipino nationals in Myanmar.
"The Embassy is gathering current and credible information on the status of all affected Filipinos in Myanmar in order to determine the necessary resources to assist them, including the deployment of a team on the ground to conduct welfare checks," the statement read.
The embassy also announced that relocation and repatriation assistance would be made available to Filipinos in need.
"Those who require relocation or repatriation will also be assessed and assisted. For emergencies, the Embassy can be reached through the Assistance-to-Nationals (ATN) hotline (+95 998 521 0991) or via the official Philippine Embassy in Myanmar Facebook Messenger," it added.
As of this writing, Myanmar has reported 1,644 deaths and 3,408 injuries due to the devastating earthquake.
