At least four people were reported dead after a fire struck a residential area in Barangay Longos, Malabon City early Thursday morning.
Initial reports disclosed that the fire broke out in a residential compound in Block 15 in Barangay Longos. It started around 3:45 a.m. and was immediately raised to the first alarm by 3:52 a.m.
The fire was declared under control by 4:50 a.m. and was out by 6:52 a.m. Residents in the area said that the incident happened too quickly, preventing some household members from exiting the burning house.
Three of the bodies were found in the back area of the house, where they were seen lying next to each other.
Arson investigators are still investigating the fire’s cause and the extent of the damage.
The Malabon City Public Information Office reported that the blaze affected 69 residents from 16 families.
Around 3 p.m., Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval personally visited the affected residents at the Longos Multi-Purpose Hall and distributed relief packages.
“She also assessed their needs after this unexpected incident. Despite this tragedy, the city government is here to provide support and ensure that they are in good condition,” the city mayor said.
Relief packs containing rice, instant noodles, coffee, water and hygiene kits were distributed.
