The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) confirmed on Tuesday that an arrest warrant has been issued for former President Rodrigo Duterte.
In a statement, the PCO said that INTERPOL Manila has officially received a copy of the arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Duterte arrived in Manila around 9:20 AM at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 from Hong Kong.
Upon arrival, INTERPOL operatives served Duterte with an official notification from the Prosecutor General of the ICC regarding the arrest warrant for crimes against humanity related to extrajudicial killings committed during the bloody war on drugs under his administration.
The PCO added that the former president is in good health following a check-up by government physicians.
“The former president and his group are in good health and were examined by government doctors. His condition has been ensured to be stable,” the PCO said.
“The PNP officers who enforced the warrant ensured that they wore body cameras. He is now in the custody of the authorities,” it added.
This is a developing story.
