The Philippine Navy is aiming to impose its dominance when the Tour of Luzon hits the road on 24 April.
But Navy head coach Reinhard Gorantes said winning it all in this competition will be easier said than done now with three teams from Southeast Asia also joining along with 11 more local squads.
The Tour of Luzon will have eight stages that will start from Laoag, Ilocos Norte and will end in Baguio City.
“The riders are hungry and we need to prove it again. But there are more challenges,” Gorantes said.
“There are more teams and more continental teams. So it’s very challenging for us to bring back the results of the past three years.”
The last time the Navy dominated a local cycling circuit was during the Ronda Pilipinas back in 2022.
The Navy dominated the team category with Ronald Lomotos emerging as the champion of the 10-stage race.
With the Tour of Luzon set to open next month, Gorantes vows they will do everything they can to come out on top.
“To all the fans, you just need to watch us. We will not enter a race with excuses that we are not prepared,” Gorantes said.
“Experience-wise, we will be relying on our old riders.”
