A mandatory retraining program for public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers is set to take place in the last quarter of the year, with ongoing consultations currently being conducted, according to LTFRB technical division head Joel Bolano in a radio interview on Saturday.
The pilot implementation will begin with big public transport vehicles such as buses and trucks for hire in the National Capital Region, followed by Region 3 and Region 4-A.
Bolano explained that the retraining will cover modules on road safety, road courtesy, anger management, psychological profiling, and emergency response, including first aid and handling passengers in case of road crashes.
The program will also include the accreditation of driving schools where PUV drivers will undergo training. The retraining will last for 16 hours and can be completed in two days, with an estimated target of over 600,000 public utility drivers.
