TecPlata, the Argentine business unit of International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI), has become the first terminal in Buenos Aires to obtain the prestigious Business Alliance for Secure Commerce (BASC) certification, reinforcing its commitment to global trade security and supply chain standards.

BASC is an international nonprofit organization that promotes secure trade through collaboration with governments, regulatory bodies, and global institutions. Companies that achieve certification must meet stringent security and control measures designed to prevent illegal activities such as smuggling, drug trafficking, terrorism, and cargo theft.

"This certification, along with being part of the BASC network, strengthens TecPlata’s cooperation with customs and international organizations, enabling us to manage risks and secure trade without compromising border controls. It reinforces our mission to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable port operations aligned with the highest international standards," said Juan Pablo Trujillo, TecPlata chief executive officer.

The BASC certification brings several benefits to TecPlata’s operations, including international recognition under the World BASC Organization, stronger cooperation with authorities leading to smoother inspections, improved port logistics, and enhanced risk management to reduce security threats and operational costs. It also strengthens the company’s market positioning by reinforcing its adherence to global trade standards and provides access to specialized audits and training, ensuring continuous process improvements.

The certification underscores TecPlata’s role as a key logistics hub in Argentina, providing customers and stakeholders with a more secure and efficient trade environment. It further enhances TecPlata’s commitment to transparency and security, ensuring that port operations meet the highest global benchmarks.

TecPlata operates Argentina’s most modern container terminal under a 30-year concession granted in 2008 by the Consorcio de Gestión del Puerto La Plata. The facility was built with a $450 million investment and has an initial handling capacity of 450,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), with potential expansion to 1 million TEUs in a second phase. By securing BASC certification, TecPlata strengthens its position as a trusted trade gateway in Argentina, reinforcing its commitment to global security standards while optimizing port operations.
