Organizers of God Save the Philippines Rally on Sunday invited former Senators Juan Ponce Enrile and Gregorio Honasan to attend the symbolic reenactment of the 1986 EDSA People Power that ended the 20-year rule of the late former President Ferdinand Marcos and the restoration of democracy in the country.

“EDSA heroes led by Enrile and Honasan were invited through social media to join the People Power monument God bless the Philippines peace rally to share their insight of the gains of People Power revolution in the midst of economic and political challenges facing the country today.” Benito Ranque lead organizer of the event.

He said all systems go with the peace rally which will start from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. as provided in the permit issued by the Quezon City government.

The Sunday rally signals the three-day commemoration of the People power revolution starting on Sunday, followed by the Monday rally of the Makabayan group and on the 25th the official celebration of the event by the Edsa People Power commission which were also given permits by the Quezon city government.

The Sunday rally was originally named the Jericho Peace Rally but later on changed to the God Save the Philippines” which was the response of Vice President Sara Duterte on the impeachment case filed by the House of Representatives to the Senate.

“Participants will be praying for divine intervention against the pressing economic and political problem facing the people today,” he said.

He said the presence of Enrile and Honasan may ease the tension brewing in the political landscape that may trigger the repeat of history.

He said they have invited religious and civic groups to join us in the symbolic reenactment of the EDSA revolution.

The gathering was originally planned as the Jericho March which refer to a prayer walk by a group or congregation. The purpose is to pray for or against something and ask God to intercede, protect, or change something.

He said the EDSA Jericho peace rally seeks to ask God’s protection over our leaders or cities or for revival to come.

Ranque however clarified the mass gatherings are consistent with the “No Street Rally” call of Vice President Sara Duterte to allow volunteers to concentrate on their daily work despite the impeachment case filed by the House of Representatives in the Senate.

He said although the Mayor Sara Duterte Alliance network has been reactivated across the country volunteers were advised to concentrate on social media and continue their daily tasks to cope up with the current economic situation particularly at the grassroots level.

Ranque reminds President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos to be wary of what he called the “February 25 curse” which falls on Tuesday and ended the 20-year rule of his late father in 1986 after his fourth inauguration on the same date.
