Police arrested two people for smoking in public, resisting arrest, and illegal drug possession during a routine foot patrol in Barangay 144 on Friday.

Officers from the Caloocan City Police Station, led by acting chief P/Col. Edcille V. Canals, initially stopped the 46-year-old male volunteer from Barangay 151 and 46-year-old unemployed woman from Barangay 144 for violating City Ordinance 0647 S. 2016 (smoking in public).

The two allegedly pushed officers and tried to flee before being subdued.

A search yielded 8.8 grams of suspected shabu in two plastic sachets, valued at P59,840. The suspects and evidence were turned over to the Station Drug Enforcement Unit.

NPD acting director P/Col. Josefino D. Ligan commended the officers, emphasizing the Northern Police District’s commitment to crime prevention.

“This operation shows our dedication to keeping communities safe and drug-free. We will continue aggressive anti-crime and anti-drug efforts in CAMANAVA,” Ligan said.

The suspects face charges for smoking in public, disobedience to authorities (Article 151, Revised Penal Code), and drug possession (Section 11, Article II, RA 9165).
