The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth), led by Acting President and CEO Dr. Edwin M. Mercado, recently met with leaders of private hospital groups and national associations to discuss ways to improve the efficiency of claims processing, reduce waste, and ensure timely payments to hospitals.
Representatives from Metro Pacific Health Corporation, Mount Grace Hospital Group, Unilab Foundation, AC Health, St. Luke’s Medical Center, The Medical City, the Private Hospitals Association of the Philippines, and the Philippine Hospital Association attended the meeting.
Dr. Mercado and hospital executives also agreed to expand primary care access, which is vital for achieving Universal Health Care. The move aims to complete Health Care Provider Networks (HCPNs) and enhance healthcare delivery.
“We recognize the significant role that private hospitals play in delivering quality healthcare services to Filipinos," Dr. Mercado said. He added that building trust and improving coordination with private hospitals is key to strengthening healthcare in the Philippines.
Dr. Mercado plans to meet with government-run hospitals next to further improve PhilHealth’s role in the country’s healthcare system.
