Rice prices are dropping in Mandaue City, Cebu.
The decreases were from P1 to P5 per kilogram in all rice varieties during DAILY TRIBUNE’s Cebu price watch.
Local rice retailer Adelfa Lumapas confirmed on Saturday, 15 February that the decrease is due to lower supply costs, which allows retailers to pass savings on to consumers.
She clarified though that the price reduction is not linked to the government’s Kadiwa ng Pangulo Rice-for-All (RFA) program.
Currently, rice prices in Mandaue City public market range between P40 and P58 per kilo, while corn rice costs between P35 and P45 per kilo.
According to the Philippine Information Agency, rice prices are expected to drop by P3 per kilo under the RFA program.
RFA5 rice will be priced at P43 per kilo; RFA25 at P35 per kilo; and RFA100 at P33 per kilo.
At present, RFA5 is sold at P45 per kilo; RFA25 at P38 per kilo; and RFA100 at P36 per kilo.
The Kadiwa ng Pangulo continues to provide rice at P29 per kilo for vulnerable groups, including senior citizens, persons with disabilities, solo parents and indigent individuals.
